THE COTSWOLDS

are on our doorstep

Located on the edge of the Cotswolds, Widbrook Grange is the perfect base from which to explore the chocolate-box villages of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Cotswolds – just the name conjures up visions of picturesque villages and quintessential English countryside. From the honey-toned buildings that are the hallmark of this neck of the woods to the rolling hills, the Cotswolds are a must-see part of Britain and home to some of the most beautiful villages in the entire country.

Located within one to two hours of London, if you're coming from the capital you can stop off on your way to Widbrook Grange. And when you're done exploring the Cotswolds, head back to the Farmhouse for a cosy snuggle in front of the fire and a delicious tipple from the Gin Bar.

Favourite Cotswold villages

The Cotswolds is England’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so the area is pretty idyllic from every angle. You won’t be able to resist exploring dreamy-looking towns and villages such as Bibury, Malmesbury and Castle Combe.

Their quaint Cotswold-stone cottages and beauty from a bygone era are hard to rival. Whether you potter, mooch or hike the Cotswolds, you're bound to like what you see. These are our favourite places to visit in the area…

Lacock

Lacock

20 minutes' drive

This perfectly preserved village is the closest of our picks. A go-to filming location for costume dramas and feature films, it has lots of preserved buildings to discover, such as the 14th century Tithe Barn, the medieval church of St Cyriac and an 18th century lock-up, once used to detain local drunks and others awaiting trial.

Castle Combe

Castle Combe

30 minutes' drive

Castle Combe is a quintessentially English village that competes with Bibury for the title of best-looking in the Cotswolds. Beyond perfect, Castle Combe has featured regularly as a filming location, most recently appearing in The Wolf Man, Stardust and Stephen Spielberg’s War Horse. It was also used in the original Dr Doolittle film.

Tetbury

Tetbury

45 minutes' drive

Tetbury is the home of HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall, and was an important market for Cotswold wool and yarn during the Middle Ages. With four main streets of shopping, there are scores of antique shops, indy interior and fashion boutiques and stylish eateries – foodies will be in seventh heaven! Make a day of it and visit nearby Westonbirt, The National Arboretum.

Bibury

Bibury

1 hour's drive

Victorian Arts and Crafts textile designer William Morris described it as "the most beautiful village in England". The River Coln flows through Bibury, sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy watermeadow known as Rack Isle. With the famous weavers' cottages of Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes for one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds.

Cirencester

Cirencester

1 hour's drive

Cirencester is a lovely market town with a fascinating history. Visit the Corinium Museum to take a step back in time, experience life as a Roman and marvel at the stunning mosaics. Other hidden gems include The Woolmarket, off Dyer Street, and the Stable Yard, off Blackjack Street, and packed with the fantastic independent shops and cafes for which the town is famous.

Stow-on-the-Wold

Stow-on-the-Wold

1 hour 20 minutes' drive

This historic wool town is known for its market square, its antique shops and its great selection of traditional pubs and inns – making it a Cotswold must visit. Perfect for pootling, we love the Fosse Gallery for contemporary British art, plus the Borzoi Bookshop, Tudor House Antiques, Cutter Brooks and the Cotswold Sweet Company.
